MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Governor Bob Riley is expected to call a special election to fill a vacancy in Alabama’s 7th Senate District.
Riley said in a statement Thursday, he received a letter from Congressman-elect Parker Griffith informing him of his resignation from the State Senate.
The Huntsville Democrat won the 5th district seat on Nov. 4. He replaces retiring Democratic Congressman Bud Cramer.
Ken Wallis, the governor’s legal adviser, said he is moving forward to schedule a special election as soon as possible.
