Complete but unofficial returns from the 1st Congressional District election show Republican Bradley Byrne captured 71 percent of the vote.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Byrne has 36,042 votes and Democrat Burton Leflore has 14,968 votes, or 29 percent.
Bryne is a former state senator, state school board member and state two-year college chancellor from Fairhope. He went into Tuesday's election with a huge lead in fundraising. He reported raising $1.1 million, while Leflore reported less than $7,000.
Byrne's victory continues a tradition of Republicans carrying the 1st Congressional District in every election since 1964.
The special election resulted from the resignation of Republican Rep. Jo Bonner in August.
