3rd Adams Produce exec pleads guilty

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Former Adams Produce Chief Executive Officer Scott David Grinstead has become the third company executive to plead guilty.

The 45-year-old Birmingham businessman entered his plea Wednesday. He's set for sentencing Aug. 21 by U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre.

He pleaded guilty to knowing that two other executive were engaging in fraud, to wire fraud and to failure to file tax returns for 2009 and 2010. Prosecutors said his gross income was nearly $749,000 in 2009 and nearly $1.9 million in 2010. Grinstead's plea deal calls for him to pay $450,000 in restitution.

Former director of purchasing David Andrew Kirkland and former purchasing program specialist Christopher Alan Pfahl (Fall) pleaded guilty earlier.

Adams Produce was a leading distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables across the Southeast before going into bankruptcy.
