Stabbings leave 1 dead, 1 injured in Opelika

— OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Police in Opelika are investigating a double stabbing that claimed the life of one person and left another person injured.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports ( that the violence happened around 6 p.m. Sunday at the Brookhaven Trailer Park on Hurst Street.

Opelika police say several individuals were involved in an altercation, which subsequently led to the stabbings.

Richard Young, a resident of the park, said he was sitting on his porch when he heard a "commotion" down the street. He said he went to see what had happened and saw two men lying on the ground, bleeding.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the victims. Interim Police Chief Ed Clark said the injured man is "alert enough that he's talking to my officers."
