Search continues for inmate accused of escape

— BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say they're continuing to search for an inmate who they say escaped from custody in Shelby County.

Sheriff's officials tell WBRC-TV that officers on Sunday afternoon spotted a car they believe the inmate stole in Clanton. Authorities say they tried to stop the car, but it got away.

Officials say the inmate, Shannon Loyd Crumpton, was last seen at the Frank Lee Work Release Center. He was reported missing around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say Crompton was sentenced in Shelby County to 22 years in prison on charges of robbery and forgery.

Sheriff's investigators say they believe Crumpton is in a 2000 tan Chevy Malibu.
