Rain puts damper on Fourth of July events

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Summer downpours are causing organizers to cancel some fireworks displays and other Fourth of July events in Alabama.

In Pike Road near Montgomery, local civic and community clubs canceled the city's annual Fourth of July parade on Thursday and the annual fireworks show was postponed until September. The Fort Rucker Army post also surrendered to the wet weather, scrapping its Freedom Fest celebration that included fireworks.

A 40 percent-chance of rain hung over the scheduled fireworks display Thursday at Battleship Park on Mobile Bay. Organizers said a rainout would cause the event to be moved to Saturday night.

Tuscaloosa's outdoor Americanarama show was spared from any hard rain falling Wednesday night, allowing Bob Dylan and his band to take the stage and play through a steady drizzle.
