TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A proposed riverfront development along the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa is one step closer to becoming reality.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/17cFxvv ) that the city council on Tuesday unanimously approved the plans for the multiuse development that would be located on the former Tuscaloosa Chevrolet site.

The approximately $42 million development on the 7.6-acre site would include nearly 40,000 square feet of commercial space and 201 living units of one-, two- and three-bedrooms for both sale and lease. The developer is calling the project "Riverfront Village."

With the council's approval of the plans, the development is on pace to have much of the construction completed by July 2014. The city council is expected to approve the project in a final vote next week.
