Hazel Green man sentenced in attempted kidnapping

A Madison County man accused of trying to kidnap the children of a Huntsville police officer has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Nicholos Kirk Roberts of Hazel Green was sentenced Monday on charges of attempted kidnapping and attempting to lure a child for immoral purposes in December 2011. He pleaded guilty to the charges in late October.

Madison County District Attorney Tim Gann said Roberts, 42, told investigators that planned to molest the teenage boys, kill them and dump their bodies.

The children's father found Roberts after the incident and identified himself as a police officer. Investigators have said the man fled, crashed his truck and was pulled from it before it burst into flames.
