WASHINGTON —

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions has been chosen as the lead Republican for the Senate minority on the House-Senate Budget Conference Committee.

In a statement Thursday, Sessions, a Mobile Republican, said he thinks members of the committee will act in the best interest of the country and try finding common ground.

The committee consists of Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington state, Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland.
