Funeral set for naked student killed by police

— WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) — A funeral is scheduled in Wetumpka for a University of South Alabama freshman who was killed by a campus police officer.

The funeral for 18-year-old Gil Collar is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at Mulder Memorial United Methodist Church. The church is a few miles from his Wetumpka home.

Collar was shot a week ago after going to the campus police station nude and pounding on the glass. Police said he had taken LSD and acted aggressively when an officer came outside carrying a gun. The officer repeatedly backed away from the unarmed student before firing. An attorney for the student's family, Jere Beasley, says Collar never touched the officer and the fatal shooting never should have happened.
