Woman, 61, dies after being burned in house fire

— CLANTON, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 61-year-old woman who was burned in a house fire.

The fire broke out early Saturday morning in Clanton.

Earneshay Varner and Tyrone Campbell helped rescue the woman from the home. They told WBRC-TV ( that when they got to her, she was burned from head to toe. She was taken to a hospital, but did not survive.

Varner and Campbell say they heard a loud explosion right before they saw the fire.

Authorities have not released the woman's identity.

Clanton is about 50 miles southeast of Birmingham.
