Hunt for missing UA student continues on river

Associated Press

ATHENS — LOCUST FORK, Ala. (AP) — Emergency workers and volunteers are continuing the search for a University of Alabama student who is missing after a river accident in Blount County.

WBRC-TV (http://bit.ly/16SY3by ) reports that officials now consider the search for 19-year-old Alyssa Huffstutler of Blountsville to be a recovery mission.

That's because they believe Huffstutler would have been able to travel through woods and make contact by now.

Blount County officials say the young woman has been missing since about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, when she was with friends floating down the Locust Fork of the Warrior River.

Huffstutler hasn't been seen since flipping out of an inner tube in a rough section of the river.

Authorities say muddy water and swift currents are hampering the search.

Friends held vigils for Huffstutler on Thursday.
