2 injured in explosion at Foley industrial plant

FOLEY, Ala. (AP) — Fire officials say two people are injured after an explosion at an industrial plant near Alabama's Gulf Coast.

WKRG-TV reports (http://bit.ly/19e4MRB ) hundreds of employees were evacuated Friday after the explosion inside Plant One at UTC Aerospace in Foley.

Foley Fire Chief Joey Darby says one person was airlifted to a burn center with extensive injuries and a second worker with more minor injuries was treated at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.

A spokesman for the company says the blast was sparked by an employee cutting metal.

Darby says there was no fire burning when firefighters arrived. Normal operations have resumed at the plant.
