Second Vina High School coach charged with sex crime

VINA — A second coach from Vina High School is facing charges of having sex with a student.

Franklin County authorities say Vina High School teacher Brian Scott Keeton of Carbon Hill is charged with having sex with a student under 19. The 38-year-old is a math teacher and boys' basketball coach.

Last week, former Vina girls' basketball coach Sonny Tibbs was arrested on charges of sex with a 17-year-old student.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver says the cases involve two different girls.

The sheriff says the investigation of Tibbs resulted in authorities getting calls about Keeton. Both coaches are suspended with pay.

Court records don't show if either man has a lawyer.

Oliver says the arrests are a very sad situation for the community and the school.
