Rains, rising water delays Alabama River salvage

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Persistent rains and rising water levels are hampering work to salvage a 50-ton boat on the Alabama River in Montgomery.

A dilapidated tourist riverboat sank near the Montgomery Marina last year, and workers spent a day trying to remove it in June.

But The Montgomery Advertiser (http://on.mgmadv.com/171S6Xn ) reports that work has slowed since then because of rising water from weeks of steady rains.

Additional mud is now filling the craft, which is now only three-quarters of the way out of the water.

The owner of a nearby restaurant plans to build a dock and deck at the site once the riverboat is gone.
