Police probe reason for former professor's killing

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — An autopsy reveals that a 73-year-old woman in Tuscaloosa died of sharp force trauma, but investigators aren't revealing the type of weapon used in the slaying.

Police identified the victim as Kate Ragsdale, a retired University of Alabama professor.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/XDkoTU) that investigators are creating a timeline of the last few days, weeks and months of her life, with hopes that the information will lead to her killer.

Authorities say a neighbor found Ragsdale dead inside her home in The Highlands neighborhood Sunday afternoon, after noticing several newspapers in her yard.

Capt. Loyd Baker, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit commander, said Ragsdale had been dead for at least a few days, judging from the newspapers in the yard and the amount of medication left in prescription bottles.
