— LUMBERTON, Miss. (AP) — A Kentucky man remains hospitalized in critical condition in a Mississippi hospital Tuesday after being injured in a tandem jump that left a skydiving instructor dead.

The man has been identified as 26-year-old David Meek of Paintsville, Ky. Lamar County, Miss., Sheriff Danny Rigel (REE-guhl) says Meek has spinal and other injuries.

Rigel says three other skydivers who jumped with them told investigators that equipment appeared to malfunction Saturday morning.

Meeks and James "Jimmie" Horak Jr. were finally located at around 3:30 p.m. about a mile from the airport in a swamp, remote area near Lumberton, Miss.

The 56-year-old Horak was pronounced dead at the scene.

Horak was an instructor for the Emerald Coast Skydiving Center in Elberta, Ala.
