UPDATE: Details released on fatal shooting in Limestone County

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday morning.

The department received a call at 12:15 a.m. concerning a shooting at the home of Bradley Phillips, located at 19797 Townsend Ford Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a male victim lying in the hallway of the residence with a gunshot wound to the stomach. Deputies performed CPR, but the victim — 22-year-old Darrel Thomas Taylor — was pronounced dead at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

A press release from the department states witnesses told deputies that Taylor and the sister of Phillips’ girlfriend had gone to the home after being informed of an argument between Phillips and his girlfriend. The girlfriend told her sister not to come to the residence and that she would meet up with her later.

After Taylor and the sister arrived at the residence, an argument began between Taylor and Phillips, the release said. Taylor was on top of Phillips assaulting him when Phillips fired a shot at Taylor, which struck him in the stomach

Phillips called 911 and waited for deputies to arrive. The incident remains under investigation by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Taylor’s body was transported to the Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville for an autopsy, the release said.

Phillips had not been arrested on any charges as of late Saturday morning.
