— HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Police on Saturday arrested a suspect in the shooting deaths of two Birmingham adults who were killed overnight at a Hoover nightclub, near Birmingham.
Hoover police Capt. James Coker said U.S. marshals made an arrest at 7 a.m., about seven hours after the shooting inside Martini's Lounge on Lorna Ridge Lane. The suspect had not been charged as of Saturday afternoon. Coker said the suspect is male but did not release his name.
The victims were identified as Monterio Alonzo Peebles-Kellogg, a 19-year-old male, and Lakenya Chaniese Moton, a 20-year-old female. Both lived in Birmingham. They were declared dead at the scene.
A third victim was treated at UAB Hospital's trauma center and released after gunshot injuries that were not life-threatening. Coker said she is a 20-year-old female.
The slayings are the first non-vehicular homicides in Hoover, a suburb with more than 82,000 residents, since 2010.
Coker said the circumstances are still under investigation. He told al.com that it appears the shooter knew the victims. "This was no random act," he said.
