Fatal train crash under investigating in Bessemer

BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Bessemer are investigating a fatal train crash.

Bessemer Police Sgt. Cortice Miles told local media outlets that authorities were called to a section of train tracks Sunday morning and found a man dead. The man's identity hasn't been released.

Miles says the man was sitting inside of a silver SUV and it's unclear if the driver was trying to beat the train.

Miles says the barriers securing the railroad crossing appeared to have been functioning at the time of the crash, and the incident is under investigation.
