Eagle Scout project lends helping hand to new library

The ongoing project to complete the new Athens-Limestone Public Library in the former Kroger’s building recently received a boost to its surrounding area.

Eagle Scout Zarley Lawson, fellow members of Boy Scout Troop 240 and project volunteers refurbished the guardrails on the bridge leading to the library off South Jefferson Street. They sanded and primed the rails, adding a new coat of bright silver paint.

Troop 240 is sponsored by First United Methodist Church in Athens. The Scoutmaster is Allen Sandlin and assistant scoutmasters are Joe McDonald, David Toney and David McLin.

Construction officials said the Phase II interior work remains on schedule. The Phase I exterior was completed in December 2013, after the project began a year ago.

Library Director Paula Laurita said the new facility could be ready for a grand opening in October.
