Honor band students in tune for concert

— COXEY, Ala. — Cheerleader, instructor and bandleader were a few of the roles being played by guest conductor Nancy Frith during Tuesday’s practice for the annual Limestone County honor band concert.

As the students pored over sheet music and harmonized on instruments ranging from the timpani to the trombone, Frith cajoled the horn and saxophone sections to set the melody during rehearsal in the Clements Baptist Church sanctuary.

This year’s two-level honor band has 139 members in grades 7-12 from the county’s six high schools, Athens Middle School and Athens High School. The concert band was comprised of 75 students, and the upper-echelon wind ensemble had 64 instrumentalists ...
