Meow it's Senate's turn

Spay-neuter bill passes House

— Advocates and owners of Alabama’s four low-cost spay and neuter clinics may have howled for joy Wednesday but they also know the battle is not won.

On Tuesday, Alabama lawmakers voted to protect the efforts of low-cost spay and neuter clinics trying to stem the state’s overpopulation of pets. On a 79-14 vote, they approved House Bill 188, which would amend state law to allow non-profit clinics to hire veterinarians rather than require that veterinarians actually own those clinics. The bill now goes to the Senate for a vote.
