Family, friends gather to watch local band's fate at Grammys

— When it came to the Grammys on Sunday night, it seems a good portion of the community was watching — many hoping to get a glimpse of Brittany Howard, Zac Cockrell, Heath Fogg and Steve Johnson of Limestone County’s own Alabama Shakes.

“Everybody has been talking about it,” Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks said Sunday night at an invitation-only Grammy viewing party held at the Athens Visitor’s Centers by drummer Steve Johnson’s family and friends. “It was announced at church today. People in our Sunday school class were talking about it. I went to lunch and folks there were talking about it. … This is great for Athens. We have to support our young people every way we can.”
