County weighs growth options for jail

— An ongoing project to expand the Limestone County Jail will take another step forward at Monday’s regular meeting as the County Commission will vote on two options to add 24 single, lockdown cells to the 288-bed jail.

Option A is a 5,500-square-foot, 24-cell addition, and Option B is a 10,850-square-foot, 24-cell expansion with shell space for 24 more cells that could be added later with interior work.

The first option would cost between $1.9 and $2.1 million, and the second option would range from $2.3 to $2.6 million, according to a March 5 letter from Leonard Robinson of project architect Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood.
