Glenn Tays departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home in Athens.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 tonight at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 1917 U.S. 72 West in Athens, with Ronnie Oakley officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Glenn leaves behind his memory to be cherished by his wife of 53 years, Nell Tays; his daughter, Sharon Tays Lovell and son-in-law Daniel; his son, Tim Tays and daughter-in-law Jill; his grandchildren are Matthew Tays Lovell, Lucas Shane Lovell and Sarah Grace Tays. He has one surviving sister, Kathleen Gautney of Blue Water.

Glenn and Nell have been long time members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Athens.

Glenn served in the Air Force from 1954 –59, at which time he entered the civil service as a logistics support specialist. He later retired from the government in 1989. He continued to work in various capacities that he enjoyed, such as substitute teaching, selling real estate for Century 21 and working for various defense contractors until 2001.

He was also very involved in the community. He was an active member of Athens Masonic Lodge No. 16, was active in the booster club and, at various times in his life, coached football and baseball and was always active in the church.
