BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) The Alabama Republican Party has named Timothy James "T.J." Maloney to be the party's new executive director.

Party chairman Bill Armistead said Maloney was chosen to replace former executive director John Ross, who resigned in February.

Maloney is an experienced party activist. He currently lives in Virginia and was campaign manager last year for Iowa state Sen. Brad Zaun, who lost a bid for Congress.

Maloney was campaign manager in 2008 for the unsuccessful campaign for Congress of Wayne Parker in Alabama's 5th Congressional District.

As executive director, Maloney will lead the party's day-to-day operations. He will begin his new job on Monday.
