Private Jonathan Rosso, left, a third-grade student at Julian Newman Elementary School and Private Blake De La Rosa, a sixth-grade student at Athens Intermediate School are embers of the Madison Alabama Young Marines organization.

The Madison Alabama Young Marines, a nonprofit organization for boys and girls ages 8-18, have been invited to the nation’s capital in November by the Young Marines National Headquarters. The organization, whose mission is to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, while focusing on character building and leadership skills, will help celebrate Veterans week while in Washington, D.C.

The group will meet and get a chance to talk with and hear personal stories form the five remaining Doolittle Raiders. Members will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier as well as tour Arlington Cemetery, the Pentagon and the Marine Museum.

The Madison Alabama Young Marines have been busy raising funds for the event, but need additional funds to make the once in a lifetime opportunity a reality.

Those interested in making a tax deductible contribution to the Madison Alabama Young Marines, can contact Judy Pettus at 256-316-2902, Amy De La Rosa at 732-713-9664 or Jennifer Rosso at 256-278-6700 or email madisonyoungmarines@yahoo.com.
