The Athens High School baseball team, ranked No. 8 in the latest Class 5A poll, got back in the win column Thursday after defeating Hatton 5-0. The Golden Eagles improved their record to 13-1.

Starting pitcher Tyler McMurry struck out 10 and walked two in five innings of work.

The offense was hot throughout the game, generating five extra base hits. Todd Pepper, Keith Chronister and Brad Reasonover all hit doubles. Pepper also had an RBI.

William Ming had a pair of hits, a single and a double. His double in the sixth inning brought home two runners for the Golden Eagles.

Tyler Dorning’s bat was hot as well. He hit a single and a triple. Zach Brock had a single.
