Athens police have arrested a 29-year-old Hispanic male who ran his car into the front of an Athens business Saturday night at Elm Street and U.S. 31 North.
Lt.-Detective Floyd Johnson said Roberto Queil, of 210 N. Madison St., Athens, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle plowed into the Texaco service station.
“The business was open and they had people inside at the time of the incident,” Johnson said Monday. “Luckily, there were no injuries.”
The building sustained approximately $3,000 in damages, according to storeowners.
Johnson said the incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. He said Queil’s vehicle crashed through the front portion of the building.
“He was drinking pretty heavily and just ran his vehicle right through the front glass door,” Johnson said. “They were in there working at the time, but all escaped injury.”
Johnson said officers investigating the wreck took Queil into custody. He said Queil spent the rest of the night in jail and was released sometime later Sunday.
