Max Shipp Road fire

Piney Chapel firefighters rest after a large fire destroyed a home, a barn and a car Wednesday morning. Officials did not release a cause of the blaze.

A mobile home, a barn and a car were destroyed Wednesday morning after catching fire in the Piney Chapel community.

Piney Chapel and Owens volunteer fire departments responded to the scene after someone living in a home at 21232 Max Shipp Road called to say there was smoke in her house. As firefighters were en route, the woman called back to tell dispatchers a barn was also on fire and the flames seemed to have started in a nearby field, according to scanner traffic.

When crews arrived, the house, a barn and a car were fully involved. Several propane tanks were also caught up in the blaze, according to emergency radio traffic. Before more firefighters could respond to assist, the barn and home collapsed.

Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading and after the structures collapsed, were able to control the remaining flames, according to radio traffic.

A News Courier reporter on scene said nothing but rubble remained of the house, barn and car while firefighters extinguished hot spots.

Limestone County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the scene, but said the property owners did not wish to file a report on the incident. No injuries were reported.
