A nationally known attorney and victims advocate plans to open a chapter called “Ax Sex Abusers Now!” in Athens following the arrest this week of a 71-year-old man on 51 counts of sodomy and sexual abuse.

Sam Rogatinsky, who is a sponsor of ASAN, a first-responder team of professionals founded to investigate and seek out sexual abusers nationwide, plans to open a chapter here soon, spokeswoman Kim Goedde said Wednesday.

“We read about the recent arrest in your town and it was horrible,” Goedde said of the recent arrest of Johnnie Donald Pack of Athens. Pack is accused of sodomizing and sexually abusing two boys, between ages 9 and 12, over a period of several years. Although he is not related to the boys, Athens Police have declined to say, at this time, how Pack encountered the boys.

“Sex abuse seems to be an epidemic,” Goedde said. “These people lure children in and it is so disturbing. Sam just wants to make a difference.”

Rogatinsky was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
