Wayne Reynolds

Dr. Wayne Reynolds is a candidate for Athens City Council District 1 and has been actively campaigning door to door to talk with the voters of his District.

Each piece of literature being distributed by Reynolds has his cellphone number, 256- 509-4822, and email address, drwaynereynolds@aol.com.

The focus of the campaign is to increase communication between voters and the City Council representative for District 1. Input from as many voters as possible makes for stronger representation, according to Reynolds.

Reynolds refers to himself as a “fiscal conservative” who believes government should live within its means. He has managed organizations with multimillion-dollar budgets and has balanced budgets without raising taxes. He has maintained close relationships with mayors and City Council members in Athens.

“I am well aware of the operations of the Athens city government and of the legislative functions of the Athens City Council,” Reynolds said. “I consider myself well prepared to serve as the City Council representative for District 1. I will be ready to take my place at the City Council on day one.”

Reynolds holds a Doctor of Education Degree from Auburn University. He served as superintendent of schools in Tarrant and Athens.

He is a registered nurse and has worked at Decatur General Hospital and Athens-Limestone Hospital. He served in the Army from 1966 to 1969 with a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968-69 as a medic.

The Rotary Club has awarded him the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award. He serves as president of the Alabama State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America, and is in his second term as national treasurer of VVA. These positions in VVA put Reynolds in frequent contact with state and national political leaders.

Reynolds has lived in Athens since 1989 and in District 1 since 1990.  He has been married to Carol Corbett Reynolds for 42 years. Carol is a retired administrator with Athens City Schools and currently serves as director of the Weekday Early Education program (WEE) at the First Baptist Church in Athens.

Both of Reynolds’ children graduated from Athens High School and attended state colleges in Alabama. His daughter, Paige Walker, lives in Madison and works at Redstone Arsenal at ARMDEC. His son, Wesley Reynolds, is a neurologist and a captain in the Air Force stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
