Possible drowning

A Limestone County Sheriff's Office boat assists in searching for a possible drowning victim Wednesday on Wheeler Lake.

UPDATED: Law enforcement at the scene of a possible drowning on Wheeler Lake have confirmed the missing man is 56-year-old Derrick Lane of Athens. Crews will continue to search until this evening, according to an official at the scene. Crews will return Thursday morning if necessary.

Several agencies are continuing to search for a possible drowning victim on Wheeler Lake off Motter Drive in Limestone County.

The Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad, Limestone County Sheriff's Office, Rogersville Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Marine Patrol began looking for the possible victim sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

There was one boat with two persons aboard, according to a press release from ALEA's Marine Patrol division.

Wednesday morning, the Sheriff's Office and personnel from the Rogersville Fire & Rescue Service and divers from the Morgan County Rescue Squad were back on the scene. The Marine Patrol is also returning to assist with the operation.
