Burglars broke into Warrior Tractor on U.S. 31 South this past weekend and made off with more than $22,500 in electronics equipment.

Athens police are investigating the burglary, but have no suspects, said Capt. Marty Bruce.

A 1978 Ford 150 pickup truck that was stolen at the business was discovered Sunday afternoon abandoned with the windows knocked out on Roy Long Road. Bruce said it appeared the burglars poured oil on the truck in an attempt to burn the vehicle.

Bruce said after the truck was found, police called the owner who told investigators he left it parked behind the fence at Warrior Tractor. Bruce said Sgt. Brett Constable then drove to Warrior Tractor and found where the privacy fence had been knocked down and a door open.

Warrior Tractor is located at 1911 U.S. 31 South. Items missing from the business include five Dell computers and monitors, two Dell laptop computers, an undisclosed amount of cash and the pickup truck.

“They damaged a steel exterior door and a bathroom window,” Bruce said.

The burglary occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday night and 2:50 p.m. Sunday.

Officials at Warrior Tractor Monday posted a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the burglary. Police said anyone with information should telephone the Athens Police Department at 233-8700.
