An Athens woman has been charged with second-degree assault for allegedly knocking a woman down with a van, an official said.

Ashley Nichole Shelnutt, 26, of 11967 Neeley Road, Lot 4, was being held Monday afternoon in the Limestone County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond, said Lt. Investigator Brad Curnutt.

She is accused of assaulting a woman, whose name was not disclosed, about 11 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 16000 block of Blackburn Road, Curnutt said.

“The victim said Ashley and her boyfriend came to her house wanting to buy drugs from her boyfriend,” Curnutt said. “When her boyfriend said he did not do that, an argument ensued and Shelnutt and her boyfriend got into a van to leave. When the victim was standing about two feet in front of the van, Shelnutt put the van in drive, struck the victim with it and knocked her to the ground, then fled the scene. She had scrapes, abrasions and a possible fractured rib.”

The victim was treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital and released, Curnutt said.

Shelnutt was later found in the van at another location, he said.
