SHEFFIELD, Ala. (AP) Authorities say a preliminary autopsy report indicates that foul play did not contribute to an inmate's death at the Sheffield City Jail.

Police say 32-year-old Kenji Simmons of Sheffield died shortly after being treated for a head injury at a local hospital.

Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray says the preliminary autopsy report found that he was not shot, stabbed or cut.

Ray said authorities are still awaiting blood tests before they are able to know for certain how Simmons died. He said that report should be completed within the next few weeks.

Simmons was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after a fight outside a bar. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a cut on his forehead and then booked into the jail.
