Hunter Reece had a career night for East Limestone Friday as the Indians grabbed their sixth straight victory of the year with a 66-28 win over Lawrence County.
The senior kick returner scored three touchdowns in the first half on a 90-yard punt return, a 21-yard run from scrimmage and a 78-yard kickoff return to total 240 yards of offense. He almost had another punt return touchdown, but it was called back because of a penalty.
For his efforts, Reece has been selected as The News Courier’s Player of the Week for week eight. His performance also landed him in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s weekly spotlight.
Other notable performances from across the county include:
• Hayden Huseth, Elkmont: The Red Devils senior quarterback was 6 of 10 for 41 yards and accounted for 92 of Elkmont’s 139 yards of total offense. He also had an interception late in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout.
• Landon Stephens, Tanner: The Rattlers senior rushed 10 times for 143 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Tanner win. He also threw for a touchdown. He scored on runs of 52, 20 and 29 yards.
