ATHENS – The Athens Post 49 Senior Legion team carries a four game winning streak into the University of North Alabama Baseball Classic at University Field in Florence.

The 49ers (5-1) continued its hot hitting in the two-game sweep of Florence Post 11 Tuesday night.

“We’re starting to play pretty good as a team,” Post 49 coach Nathan Brownlow said. “We are starting to get some pitching to go along with our good hitting and solid defense.”

In the first game, Bubba Meeks pitched a complete game shutout in Athens 6-0 win. He struckout six while giving up four hits.

Josh Farris led Post 49 with a single and two doubles. Jarrod Harrison and Cole Mitchell each had added a hit in the win.

The 49ers started to run low on pitching depth in the second game, but managed to hang on for an 11-8 win.

Mithcell carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before giving up a hit. Harrison, Jacob Lamar and Zack Kilpatrick all pitched in relief.

Farris led Post 49 with three singles, while Kilpatrick and Chris Allen each added two hits.

Brownlow said that the UNA Classic that starts today will be his teams first real test of the season. He said that the 49ers have enough offense

“This is going to be a tough tournament,” Brownlow said. “There is going to be a lot of good teams and we are going to be required to play six games. If our pitching holds up we will be fine.”

Post 49 opens the UNA Classic against the Georgia Eagles at 11 a.m..
