Hollye Keenum poured in a career-high 42 points, Thursday night, as the Tanner Lady Rattlers roared into the Class 2A, Area 15 finals with a 97-72 win over Hatton at Tanner High.

The Lady Rattlers (24-5) advance to the finals where they will face Lexington, a 63-46 winner over defending state champion Mars Hill, at 7 p.m.

Tanner led just 21-17 after one quarter, but outscored the Lady Hornets (14-15) 21-13 in the second quarter and 26-19 in the third to build a 68-49 lead through three quarters.

Cecily Woods had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Rattlers, while Christen Stephens added 10 points and seven assists. Tanner had a team total of 20 assists, including four each by Whitney Stephens and Keenum.

Briona Yarbrough added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Keenum made just 3-of-7 3-point shots, but was 10 of 15 from two-point range and 13 of 14 from the free throw line. She also had six rebounds and three steals.

Amanda Rutherford led the Lady Hornets with 14 points.

Tanner made almost 52 percent of its field goals (29 of 55), while holding the Lady Hornets to 35 percent.



Strong finish puts Lady Eagles in 5A, Area 16 final



HARTSELLE – Keona Shoulders had a near double-double as Athens rallied from a 44-43 deficit after three quarters to beat Muscle Shoals 59-52 in the Class 5A, Area 16 semifinals at Hartselle High School.

Athens (18-10) will face Hartselle (24-5) in the finals tonight at 7 at J.C. Pettey Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers disposed of Russellville 65-36 in Thursday’s other semifinal.

Shoulders led Athens with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Brittany Hovell added 10 points and four rebounds. Sierra Caudle finished with nine points and five rebounds.

Athens held a 20-14 lead after the first quarter, but was outscored 11-6 in the second quarter and held a slim 26-25 lead. The Lady Trojans outscored Athens 19-17 to take a one-point lead after three, but the Lady Eagles pulled out the win with a 16-8 advantage in the final period.



Elkmont continues run through 3A, Area 15



The Lady Red Devils ran their record to 9-0 in Class 3A, Area 15 with a 58-29 rout of West Morgan in the area tournament semifinals at Elkmont.

Bailee Robinson scored 19 points and was the only player in double figures for Elkmont (12-17), which will face New Hope at 7 tonight in the area finals. The Lady Indians defeated Madison Academy 36-29 in Thursday’s other semifinals.

Elkmont also got nine points from Kasey Menefee and eight from Jamie Lack. Amber Harwell and Brooke Pressnell scored six points each.

The Lady Devils jumped to a 16-7 first-quarter lead and never looked back. They led 35-18 at halftime and 58-39 after three quarters.



Fouls, turnovers end Lady Wildcats season early



ROGERSVILLE – Foul trouble left West Limestone without their team-leader and floor leader for most of the second half and for the second year in a row the Lady Wildcats’ season ended prematurely.

Center Channa Campbell, point guard Andrea Griggs and guard Natalie Harrison all fouled out, and the Lady Wildcats committed 32 turnovers in a 82-62 loss to Sheffield in the semifinals of the Class 3A, Area 14 Tournament at Lauderdale County High School.

The Lady Wildcats (21-9) placed four players in double figures, paced by Campbell’s 21 points. Elizabeth Dison and Ashley Blankenship added 13 points each, while Harrison finished with 11. Jasmine Horne led Sheffield with 22 points, and Destiny Robinson added 20.

West started slowly, trailing 15-6 after one quarter. The Lady Cats battled back within 31-24 at halftime and tied the game, 35-35, with 4:27 left in the third quarter.

But shortly thereafter, Campbell picked up her fourth foul, and the Lady Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run on the way to a 51-42 lead after three quarters. With Campbell, Griggs and Harrison on the bench, Sheffield finished the game with a 16-6 run.

The Lady Bulldogs made 22 of 32 free throws, while West sank 20 of 25. West Limestone had just two 3-point baskets.



Lawrence County rallies past East Limestone



CADDO – East Limestone let a 36-30 lead slip away in the final 5:27 minutes of the fourth quarter and fell 46-44 to eighth-ranked Lawrence County in the semifinals of the Class 4A, Area 15 Tournament at East Lawrence High School.

In a see-saw battle, East Limestone led 12-11 after one quarter but trailed 18-17 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Red Devils 14-10 in the third quarter to take a 31-28 lead.

Ebony McCrary led the Lady Indians with 15 points and nine rebounds but was the only East Limestone player in double figures. Brittany Moore added eight points, and Shanika Harris scored seven.

Lawrence County got 15 points from Jasma McDonald and 12 from Shea Mason.



Ardmore hangs tough early against No. 2 Eagles



CADDO – Second-ranked East Lawrence broke from a two-point contest with 6:25 left in the second quarter and cruised past scrappy Ardmore 63-40 in the Class 4A, Area 15 semifinals.

East Lawrence used a 15-4 run to build a 29-16 halftime lead and never looked back.

Julia Allen led Ardmore with 11 points. Jenifer Colbert scored seven points, Gina Smith six and Sara Jo Taylor five for the Lady Tigers.

East Lawrence (24-3) got 20 points and 16 rebounds from Jessica Young.
